Netflix has officially approved the production of a new miniseries inspired by The Corrections, the renowned novel penned by Jonathan Franzen, featuring the iconic Meryl Streep in the lead role.
Since 2024, this project has been in the works, with Franzen taking charge of the TV adaptation and assuming the role of executive producer. Streep’s involvement extends beyond her on-screen character, demonstrating her dedication to the series.
The narrative revolves around an American Midwest family, offering a blend of dark comedy elements. At its core are three adult siblings grappling with personal crises, attempting to evade their mother’s desire for a final Christmas reunion. Themes of family discord, shattered expectations, and intergenerational clashes are explored throughout the storyline.
Cord Jefferson, recognized for his contributions to American Fiction and Watchmen, will oversee the direction of all episodes. Paramount Television Studios, in partnership with wiip, will spearhead the production.
Despite previous unsuccessful endeavors to bring this novel to life on screen, including a failed film and TV pilot, the collaboration with Netflix and a strong creative team promises to finally bring The Corrections to a serialized format.
